A discontinued release from Macallan’s acclaimed 1824 Masters Series, Rare Cask Black was first released in 2015 and remains one of the most unusual official bottlings ever produced by the distillery. While Macallan is celebrated for its rich, sherry-matured style, Rare Cask Black introduced a rarely-seen element of peated Macallan spirit, creating a whisky that combined the distillery’s trademark depth and elegance with a subtle thread of smoke.

Selected by Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno from fewer than 100 casks maturing at the distillery, Rare Cask Black was crafted predominantly from first-fill American and European oak sherry-seasoned casks. The inclusion of exceptionally scarce peated stock adds an extra layer of complexity, complementing rather than overpowering the rich dried fruit, spice and chocolate notes for which Macallan is renowned.

Bottled at 48% ABV without an age statement, Rare Cask Black quickly developed a strong following thanks to its unique character and limited availability. An increasingly collectible modern Macallan that offers a fascinating glimpse into a rarely explored side of the distillery's spirit.
